Here are the Blog Questions I Will Be Answering

Of the questions that were asked on this blog, here are the ones that I will be answering over the coming weeks. I will be posting in blog form and linking you the message I preach regarding the questions.

Here are the questions:
  • Can a person still believe in God and Jesus but still have ties to another faith?/Is it possible to believe in two religious faiths?
  • What does the Bible say about Original Sin?
  • I was baptized as a baby. Is that good enough?
  • Question : Christ tells us if we have even thought about a sinful it is the same as committing the sin. The Book of James tells us that it is not the thought that is the sin but if we entertain that thought, playing with it in our mind. I know I will have a thought enter my mind that is not what I want in my mind. How do you reconcile the above two views of Christ and the Scripture in the Book of James.

Introduction: The Bible & Your Questions

We all have questions. To be alive is essentially the only qualifier need to be a part of the great debate. It all starts when we learn the word “why” (Which interestingly enough is one of the first words we learn.) and it continues over the rest of the days of our life. So what are your questions today? Where should I eat lunch? What should I watch on TV? Who should I vote for? Is he the one I should marry? Should I leave my job? Or maybe your questions stretch a little deeper into your existence or purpose: Is there a God? Did God create the earth or is evolution the truth? Where do I go when I die? I think you get the idea. We have questions on many, many different levels.

So the purpose behind this blog is to try and help you answer some of your tough questions. But this isn’t going to be just some guy’s great ideas or wisdom; this blog is devoted to helping you answer some of your toughest questions by looking to the Bible. So each question will try to be answered with a truth or teaching from the Bible. But I emphasis the word, “try”. The Bible was not given to humanity as an answer book to every question we have. The Bible was written to point us to truth, God’s plan to redeem humanity through Christ, as well as reveal how people are to live life. So the Bible does not answer every question we may have, that is where our faith in the Living God needs to kick in. Our loving Heavenly Father gives us just what we need to know and serve him here on planet earth. However, while the Bible isn’t exhaustive in very complete and more then adequate to answer many of our tough questions. So the point of reference for each answer will be God’s Word, the Bible.

Lastly, these questions are going to be used for a message series at Iowa City Church of Christ. During the months of April and May, I will be using the questions that are asked on this blog as the basis for my preaching material. Let me briefly tell you how this is going to work. Throughout January and February you will have an opportunity to ask any question(s) that you like. Simply click on the comment section and type out your question. I will begin to gather the questions and put them into various categories. Then when February is over, you will be able to vote for the “Top Ten” questions that will in turn make up my message series. Does that make sense?

Here is my promise to you: If you post a question it will be answered. In other words, if your question doesn’t make the Top Ten list I will still answer it here on this blog. Once all the questions have been asked and voted on, I will go back and respond to each one. So check back frequently to see the different questions that are being asked and how the Bible answers them.

Well, I think you are ready to go. Feel free to ask as many questions as you like and please don’t hesitate to invite family and friends to be a part of the journey as well. I really feel like this is going to be an exciting adventure, full of many surprises. So let me convey my profound thanks for being a part!

Blessings, Tom
